Reference points to remember while writing research proposal

Points to note while Writing a Research Proposal ITRM lec 3 on 9 March 2009
Summary (abstract):

Should be approximately 100 words, 4 sentences of 25 words describing the:
1. Problem
2. Idea
3. Approach, and (How will the research be done?)
4. Outcome (What is the potential benefit of this research?)

Example: -

Title: Temperature sensitivity of the spawn of frogus greenus in their natural habitat

Summary:
Frogus greenus is a fascinating species of frog but they appear to be under threat. This project will track population size (as measured by volume of spawn) against temperature to see if the decline is due to global warming. Spawn will be collected using the Hobson’s grid; temperature will be measured at noon in the shade. It is vital to save the frogus greenus and this project will help.

Aims & Background
• Aims: The research topic described using nouns (goal/s)?
• Background: Establish the boundary of knowledge that is already out there so you can distinguish how your research will further/advance upon that knowledge.

Significance
• This enables funding of the project? Compare and contrast it with potential similar project and determine how it is better (use adjectives to describe it)?

Approach
• What method/s will you use to determine the outcomes (using verbs describe this act)?
• Who? (will be involved) Where? & How?

Benefit
• This determining the usefulness of the research to a particular demographic this involves the researcher to consider who the stakeholders are it is described using adverbs.
